Architecture Is a Foundation, Not a Diagram

Every failed platform we have ever been called in to rescue had one thing in common: the architecture was implicit. It existed only in the heads of the engineers who left two years earlier.

A blueprint is not decoration. It is the mechanism by which decisions survive the people who made them. When architecture is documented as a living artifact decision records, boundaries, and failure modes a system can outlive any single contributor.

This is the same discipline structural engineers have practiced for a century. No building is erected without drawings that others can read, verify, and build upon. Software deserves the same rigor.
